The Regional Platform on Agricultural Research for Development (PRéRAD-OI) was born in 2014 out of a shared desire between the Indian Ocean Commission (IOC), the French government, Région Réunion and the Centre de coopération internationale en recherche agronomique pour le développement (Cirad).
It brings together the main public institutions (ministries), research organizations, higher education and agricultural training establishments and technical institutes in charge of transfer, present in the five IOC member countries (Madagascar, Mauritius, France-Reunion, the Seychelles and the Union of the Comoros).
Focus areas
The platform’s operational objectives :
- Facilitate the development and implementation of decision-making tools: an observatory of Indian Ocean agriculture is currently being set up. This observatory will enable us to describe the diversity of agriculture in the region, make a diagnosis and target action-lever points for sizing and directing inclusive investments to achieve greater impact in the face of the challenges.
- Support the five existing networks and facilitate the emergence and structuring of new thematic networks on topics of strategic importance to the region.
- Focus on dedicated and unique communication based on a new visual identity, facilitating the exchange and sharing of information and experience through a dedicated website and social networks.
