The INTERPOL’s activities under PSP are focused on three main areas:

  1. Operational and analytical support,
  2. Skills development, and
  3. Information sharing and networks

A flagship of INTERPOL – the INTERPOL GLOBAL COMMUNICATION SYSTEM I-24/7’s extension was made in eight PSP countries as of date, allowing enhanced communication between National Central Bureau and even beyond.

Training, equipment and capacity-building

As of June 2026, the activities of INTERPOL focused on trainings on law enforcement techniques, physical security of port infrastructure, detection of installation surveillance, harbour security + narcotics checkpoints, identity, travel and customs documents.

They have also concluded the first round of equipment provision, featuring advanced tools for evidence collection, fingerprint analysis, DNA sampling, and on-site documentation. Ensuring accuracy, reliability, and chain-of-custody integrity.

In addition, between July and December 2026, INTERPOL will focus on e-learning modules and virtual trainings, a regional training of advanced security document examination, an advanced round of donation of biometric and forensics devices, analytical software, crime scene kits, UVA lamps and magnifiers, marine monitoring kits and underwater drones.

Strengthening regional cooperation

The 6th regional case coordination meeting will be held in Nairobi, Kenya in Q4 2026.

As a proponent of gender equality, INTERPOL advances gender-responsive policing through PSP activities. INTERPOL strives to encourage women participation in capability trainings and workshops.

Expected outcomes by the end of 2026

By the end of 2026, INTERPOL aims to achieve the following cross the EA-SA-IO region :

  1. Well-trained law enforcement dealing with maritime crime,
  2. Creation of sustainable national and regional networks of experts dealing with maritime crime,
  3. Collection and preservation of evidence,
  4. Sharing of information,
  5. Build strong cases for all kinds of crimes in the maritime domain and,
  6. Successful prosecutions.
